After two winning seasons and two trips to the Mountain West Conference tournament, head coach Michael Coll is leaving the UNLV women’s soccer program. Coll, who posted a 22-12-7 record over his two seasons at UNLV, resigned to become the next head coach at UNC Greensboro, the university announced in a statement on Tuesday. “I am honored and excited to be the next head coach of women’s soccer at UNCG,” Coll said in a statement released by UNC Greensboro. “I would like to thank athletic director Kim Record and senior women’s administrator Jody Smith for trusting me with this tremendous opportunity.” Coll came over from Penn State in April 2012 and became UNLV’s fifth head coach in program history. Success came instantly for Coll as the Rebels went 12-4-4 in 2012-13 and were one game away from the conference title game. UNLV also went 3-1-3 in Mountain West play that season. UNLV struggled in Coll’s following year, going 10-8-3 and had to win the final three games to reach the Mountain West tournament. The Rebels did that, highlighted by a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Nevada-Reno on Nov. 1. Coll becomes the fourth head coach Spartans program history after replacing Steve Nugent, who took the head coaching position at Washington State. UNC Greensboro went 14-3-4 in the Southern Conference in Nugent’s last two seasons. “I was impressed by the support and pride in the program from everyone throughout this process and I am excited to get to UNCG to start working with the players,” Coll said. “Spartans soccer has a rich history and tradition and I am humbled to be given the reins to lead this team as we compete for championships and NCAA play.” Rebels assistant coach Mark Carr will be the interim coach.
