Everyone loves a good magic trick: Men’s soccer coach Rich Ryerson pulled off a pretty good one. The top-scoring high school player in Nevada history highlights a quartet of recruits — including three Las Vegas natives — that will play for UNLV this fall. Rodrigo Fuentes and Salvador Bernal will get some help. Danny Musovski from Liberty High School holds both the single-season Nevada record for goals scored (58) and the career record (128). His accolades include All-Southern Nevada, All-Sunrise Region and All-Southeast League honors this past year. He committed to UNLV over Northwestern and Washington, both of which made the NCAA Tournament last season. Edgar Dunn from Eldorado High school led his team to a state championship last year. The Las Vegas native also received All-Southern Nevada, All-Sunrise Region and All-Southeast League honors. The third member is Oscar Velazquez from North Las Vegas. Velazquez, who graduated from Southeast Career Technical Academy, spent the last year with professional club Chivas USA in the Development Academy League. He too received All-Southern Nevada and All-Sunrise League honors. Velazquez was also a Sueno finalist. Sueno MLS is a nationally televised search for Major League Soccer in which teams search to identify the best undiscovered amateur players in the country. The lone out-of-towner is Matthew Paine, a juco transfer from perennial powerhouse Yavapai College. A team captain on last year’s squad, Paine led the Rough Riders to an 18-3-6 record. He also helped them win a district championship and second-straight regional title. The 2014 squad won’t be short on production. The Rebels return all but three players. All that’s left is for Ryerson to put this talent together and see if UNLV can do something remarkable for the first time in his tenure.
