The UNLV men’s soccer team suffered a devastating loss at the Peter Johann Memorial Field when going up against Seattle Friday night. Seattle scored within the final three minutes, losing 2-3. The Rebels’ current record is now 9-4-1 in their conference, keeping them in third place while Seattle is the conference leader. As the match started, both teams had possession as they ran back and forth on the field. In the 30th minute, Seattle player Alex Roldan scored on a sliding kick. Nine minutes later, the Rebels tied it up when Shota Takada shot a long ball into the box. Sophomore Danny Musovski headed the ball as it passed the goalie and hit the back net. The crowd went wild and stood on their feet, cheering for the Rebels. With an attendance of 1,740, this was the largest audience the Rebels have ever had. The previous record was 1,200, seen on four previous occasions. A minute later, the Rebels retrieved the ball from the Redhawks and Musovski passed the defenders, then had an open shot on the goal but blasted it over the goal. With this, the Rebels missed a chance to take the lead before the half ended. The game went into halftime with the score at 1-1, and the Rebels entered the locker room to reevaluate their strategy for the game. During the second half the Rebels began aggressively, earning themselves a penalty kick against the Redhawks. Musovski took the PK, which became his redemption shot as he shot the ball into the right side of the net. The Seattle goalie dove in the opposite direction, making the score 2-1. The Rebels were not in the lead for long, as Seattle received a penalty kick as well and scored, tying up the game in the 60th minute with a score of 2-2. During the last 20 minutes, Seattle dominated possession and attacked Rebel goalie Richard Garness. With 13 minutes left, Garness attacked one of the Seattle forwards, leaving the goal wide open. Seattle took a shot to the open goal, but Rebel defender Bradley Kamdem dove and blocked the ball from passing the goal line. At the 87th minute, Seattle scored against the Rebels and took home the W. The last UNLV home game will be Sunday, Oct. 25 for the Senior Day contest against Utah Valley at 1 p.m.
